How to Get Benfica Tickets: A UK Fan's Honest Guide
By the Away Days Europe team · Published
Good news first: Benfica is one of the more doable big clubs in Europe. The Estádio da Luz holds 65,000, league games have reached a general public sale when we checked, and Lisbon is a cheap, short hop from most UK airports. The catch is the European nights, which, going by this season's sale, aren't open to the general public at all.
This guide covers how to get Benfica tickets the official way: who buys first, the free registration that gets you ahead of the public, what membership costs, the 2026/27 prices and the rules that can catch you out. Everything comes from slbenfica.pt, checked on 23 October 2026. For the quick version, see our Benfica club page, and for the rest of the league, our Primeira Liga page.
How Benfica actually sell tickets
The official channels: the only proper route
Benfica sells match tickets through its official website and app, the Benfica Official Store at the Estádio da Luz, other Benfica Official Stores and the Casas do Benfica that have a ticketing system (tickets page). Each game has its own listing, with tabs for Sales Criteria, Prices, Points of Sale and Information. That's the page to bookmark.
Buying online at the public price, the club asks for a name and an ID document number for each ticket. At the member price, you'll need the membership number plus the ID number (FAQs). Benfica doesn't say which foreign ID documents it accepts, so have your passport number to hand and contact the club if you're unsure.
You pick your own seat on a stadium map, with filters for the best or cheapest seats. Payment is by card, MB WAY, Google Pay, Apple Pay or Virtual Wallet balance (FAQs).
The sales phases: who goes first
The club's FAQ is blunt about it: members always have priority over fans (FAQs). Going by the listings on the tickets page when we checked, a league home game runs like this (tickets page):
- Members (sócios) with their fees up to date get an exclusive day, from 15:00.
- Registered Supporters, Casa Benfica members and the general public follow the next day, from 15:00.
Lisbon is on the same clock as the UK, so 15:00 there is 15:00 here. For the next league home game on sale when we checked, the members' day came about two and a half weeks before the match.
A League Cup home game on the page followed the same pattern: members first, then registered fans, Casa Benfica members and the general public the following day.
European games are a different story. The Europa League home game on the page had no general public phase. It ran Red Pass (season ticket) priority first, then members with fees paid who had joined by 27 August, then Registered Supporters who had registered by 27 August. The buy button read "Exclusive to Members and Registered Supporters" (tickets page). If a European night is the plan, you need to be signed up well before the season's cut-off date, not the week before.
Free registration: the cheap way ahead of the crowd
Before you even think about membership, sign up as a Registered Supporter. You create an account in the SL Benfica app and get the "Cartão digital Sou Benfica" (a digital fan card). The club says it gets you priority over the public or a discount when buying tickets, plus a balance in your wallet (fans page). The page doesn't mention any fee for registering.
In practice, for the league game on sale when we checked, Registered Supporters bought on the same day as the public, but got cashback of €7.50 on BTV and Emirates stand tickets and €5 on Sagres and Mais Vantagens stand tickets. It goes into the virtual wallet within 72 hours, and doesn't apply to Secondary Market tickets (tickets page). The real value is the European games, where registration by the cut-off got you in the queue and the public didn't get a look-in.
The Secondary Market (official resale)
When the club opens it, Red Pass holders can put their seat up for sale on Benfica's official Secondary Market. The club sets the seller's share, doesn't guarantee a sale, and blocks resale in certain sectors (Secondary Market). The club's page is written for sellers. It doesn't spell out who can buy, beyond what each game's listing shows.
Resale seats aren't a bargain. For one league game we checked, the Secondary Market prices were listed separately, and higher: a public Floor 1 seat in the BTV or Emirates stand was €110 against €95 in the normal sale (tickets page). Still, for a big game that's gone, it's the official route in.
Digital tickets
Tickets bought online for the Estádio da Luz arrive by email as a PDF. Public tickets carry a QR code and your seat coordinates. Members get in with their membership card or the Benfica app (FAQs). If your tickets haven't turned up by matchday, the club says to go to one of the ticket offices at the stadium.
Steer well clear of touts
Benfica warns that "Anyone purchasing tickets through unofficial channels risks being unable to access Estádio da Luz." It also points out that unauthorised resale is a crime under Portuguese law, punishable by up to three years in prison or a fine (tickets page). Not the souvenir you want.
Benfica membership: what it costs and whether it's worth it
Membership gets you the members' sale day, a cheaper price on almost every ticket and access to European games (if you join before the cut-off). When we checked, the membership fees page listed joining offers such as "2 Months + 5€ + Scarf" for Effective members (and similar month + scarf offers for other categories) (membership page). The fees it lists:
| Category | Who | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Child | 0–13 | 3€/month |
| Youngster | 14–17 | 6€/month |
| Effective | over 18 | 12€/month (6€/month for 18 to 23-year-olds paying by Direct Debit) |
| Correspondent | over 18, living more than 50 km from the outskirts of Lisbon | 25€/Trimester |
The page also notes that Effective members pay double in December (membership page). For a UK-based fan, the Correspondent category is the one written for people living away from Lisbon. The page doesn't say anything else about overseas applicants, or whether new members wait any time before using their benefits.
The membership card is personal and non-transferable (tickets page). The member price is for you, not your mates.
Is it worth it? For one league game a season, probably not. The free registration and the public sale should do you. If you want a European night, or you're coming back regularly, it starts to make sense. On the league game we checked, a member saved €15 on a lower Floor 0 seat in the BTV or Emirates stand (€35 vs €50), and €40 on Floor 1 (€55 vs €95).
The Red Pass is Benfica's season seat. The Red Pass covers national competitions and the Red Pass Total adds European games, with a waiting list (Red Pass). Not one for the weekend tripper.
How much are Benfica tickets?
Prices depend on the floor (tier) and which stand you're in. The four stands are the Mais Vantagens (North), Emirates (West), BTV (East) and Sagres (South) (tickets page), and BTV and Emirates seats cost more than Mais Vantagens and Sagres ones. These are the prices for the next league home game on the live tickets page when we checked on 23 October 2026 (tickets page):
| Floor | BTV / Emirates: Member | BTV / Emirates: Supporter / Public | Mais Vantagens / Sagres: Member | Mais Vantagens / Sagres: Supporter / Public |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Floor 0, lower | 35€ | 50€ | 20€ | 30€ |
| Floor 0, upper | 40€ | 55€ | 25€ | 35€ |
| Floor 1 | 55€ | 95€ | 40€ | 55€ |
| Floor 3, lower | 35€ | 45€ | 25€ | 35€ |
| Floor 3, upper | 30€ | 40€ | 20€ | 30€ |
So a public ticket for that game ran from 30€ in the Mais Vantagens or Sagres stands to 95€ on Floor 1 of the BTV or Emirates stands. Prices change from game to game: an earlier league game on the page was a few euros dearer in some areas. The Europa League home game ran 35€ to 75€ for registered fans, and a League Cup home game was as low as 10€ for the public (tickets page). Check your game's own Prices tab.
Two things worth knowing: Reduced Visibility seats are cheaper and shown in a different colour on the seat map (FAQs), and there are no exchanges or refunds.
Where to sit (and the small print)
Floor 0 is the lower tier, Floor 1 the middle, Floor 2 the boxes and Floor 3 the big upper tier, with 33,600 of the 65,000 seats (stadium page). The cheapest seats are in the Mais Vantagens and Sagres stands. There are 72 wheelchair spaces, each with a companion seat, on Floor 0 at the top of each stand (tickets page).
The listings flag a few things (tickets page):
- Organised fans' zones. Sector 28 on Floor 0 of the Mais Vantagens stand and sectors 5 and 6 on Floor 0 of the Sagres stand are designated areas with special access conditions for organised fans (ZCEAP). The club doesn't explain more than that.
- Front rows. For rows A and B on Floor 0, a minimum height of 1.70 m is recommended.
- Kids. Under-3s aren't allowed in. Everyone from 3 up needs a ticket.
- Limits. A maximum of 5 tickets per purchase.
Away fans: the club's ticket pages don't say where the away section is, or how away tickets are sold. If you're going as a visiting fan, go through your own club.
Hospitality and packages
Benfica Viagens, the club's travel arm, sells travel and accommodation packages with a match ticket included (tickets page). We haven't checked its prices, so look at viagens.slbenfica.pt if a package suits you.
What UK fans should realistically do
- Register in the SL Benfica app now. Do it as soon as you know you might go. It costs nothing on the page we read, and for European games the cut-off was 27 August this season.
- Watch the tickets page once fixture dates are fixed. The members' day and the public day are listed per game, at 15:00 (UK time too).
- Buy on the public day for a league game, with your passport number to hand.
- Want a European night? Join as a member, or register as a supporter, well before the season's cut-off.
- Missed out? Check the game's Secondary Market tab, and expect to pay more.
- Never buy from touts. Benfica says you risk not getting in.

Getting to the Estádio da Luz (briefly)
Take the Metro Blue Line to Alto dos Moinhos or Colégio Militar/Luz. CP trains run to Benfica or Sete Rios stations, and Carris buses also serve the ground (tickets page). Fireworks, weapons and pyrotechnics are banned, and the stadium rules also list bringing in and drinking alcohol (stadium page).
Got a spare morning? The stadium tour starts at Gate 17 by the Eusébio statue, and the museum entrance is next to Gate 10. Tickets aren't for a set date and are valid for a year. The club recommends at least an hour and a half each for the stadium and the museum. The museum is closed on days the men's team plays at the stadium. The page says ticket prices vary with age, membership and promotions, and it didn't show a price list when we checked (stadium and museum).
The verdict: how hard is it?
Doable. For a league game, register for free, buy on the public day and you've got a decent shout, with prices from about 30€. Membership saves money and gives you a day's head start, but it isn't essential for the league. European games are the hard bit. Going by this season, they're for members and supporters registered by the cut-off only, so plan months ahead, not days.
